How to view the appropriate area of our website

Our website is split into two areas:

  • North and South America
  • Rest of World

You will need to ensure that you are viewing the appropriate area of our website, depending on your location. Our books are priced in US dollars for North and South American customers and in Sterling for the Rest of the World. Books are shipped from our UK warehouse for all orders we receive from outside North and South America and from our North American warehouse for North and South American orders.

By selecting the appropriate site for your location you will see the price and currency you will pay for the product in as well as the appropriate shipping costs based on your location.

When you first visit our website you will be viewing the Rest of World site. If you are located in North or South America, please press the Go to North and South American Site button located in the top right hand corner of the screen. If you have pressed this in error you can quickly return to the Rest of World site by pressing the Go to Rest of World Site button which will have replaced the Go to North and South American Site button when you switched sites.

Finding what you want

You can either find the product you want by using our Title Search facility or you can use the subject navigation (in the left-hand margin of the website) to browse within subjects. This will give you a flavour of all of the books and products that we publish within the subject area in which you are interested. Most subjects can be broken down to two or three levels (using the navigation in the right hand margin), which offers you a reasonable level of detail when you browse by subject.

You can view full details of any product you are interested in by pressing the More Details button.

Add an item you want to buy to your basket

Once you have found a product you would like to buy, you simply press the Add to Basket button. Up until that point in the top right hand area of the screen you would see the words 'Your basket is empty'. As soon as you add a product to your basket this text changes to 'View basket (1 item)' and this becomes a link which will allow you to view your basket at any time.

You can continue to browse the subject areas or search for other products and add them to your basket by pressing the appropriate Add to Basket button. At any time you can view your basket by clicking on the View basket link.

View Basket

From the View Basket screen you can adjust the quantity of any product in the basket or delete products. After adjusting either the quantity or ticking the delete check box, please press the Update Basket button to see the results of the change you have made.

Delivery

Our standard shipping charges are:

UK
£3.95 per order
, regardless of the number of books ordered. Deliveries will be by Royal Mail and will be 3-5 days from receipt of order.

ROW (excluding North and South America, North and South American customers should press the Go to North and South American site button at the top right of the screen)
£7.50 per order. All orders are despatched by Airmail or an equivalent service. Delivery takes from 5 days from receipt of order, depending on final destination.

Courier/Airfreight/Seafreight services
These services can be provided on request for extra cost. If your order is urgent and you require a quicker shipping method please contact our distributors, Bookpoint by email ashgate@bookpoint.co.uk. Please provide details of the products you would like to order with your enquiry.

Customs, Import Duties and Taxes
Orders for delivery outside the UK may be subject to customs brokerage fees, import duties, and taxes after the shipment reaches the destination country. Additional charges are the responsibility of the recipient because we have no control over these government-imposed charges and cannot determine what they may be. Customs policies vary greatly among countries. Please contact your local customs office for information.

Delivery to British Forces Post Offices (BFPO) addresses
We are able to ship orders to British Forces Post Office (BFPO) addresses at our UK standard delivery charge of £3.95. Please select United Kingdom from the drop down box for Shipping Country to ensure you are not charged an overseas postage rate.

New customers/Sign in

If you are a new customer you should press the New Customers link to the left of the View Basket link. Here you will be asked to provide:

  • Your email address
  • A password
  • Your name
  • Telephone number (optional)
  • Company (optional)

If you have ordered from us before you need to sign in, simply by entering your email address and the password you provided when you first ordered. (Note that if you have ordered from our previous website your registration from that site will NOT have been transferred to the new website and you will need to register as a New Customer for your first order on the new website.)

There is a facility for you to reset your password (via the link on the Sign In page) or to change your email address (via the Edit option at the top right of the screen once you have signed in).

Placing your order

Once you have signed in, you complete your order by following the four step order process. Click the View Basket link. You can amend your order by adjusting the quantity of any product in your basket or by ticking the delete check box in Steps 1, 2 and 3 of the order process. If you amend your order please be sure to press the Update basket button before proceeding.

Step 1 - Basket Details

If you have a promotional code you should enter it here and press the Update basket button to apply the code to your basket.

Step 2 - Addresses

If you are a new customer you need to enter your Billing and Shipping addresses (if these are the same you can copy the Billing address to the Shipping address by ticking the appropriate check box). If you are a returning customer you can reuse addresses you have used for earlier orders by selecting them from the dropdown list of addresses and indicating by ticking the appropriate check box whether to use the address for Billing or Shipping (you can tick both). Press the Use button to apply the address you have chosen. The address information will then be displayed on the screen.

Step 3 - Payment

You can pay for your order by credit card - we accept:

  • American Express
  • Mastercard
  • Visa

Please enter your credit card details in the appropriate places on this screen.

The details of the products you have ordered appear on this screen and our standard shipping charges are applied, based on the address you have indicated we should deliver the order to.

Step 4 - Confirmation

At this stage you are unable to adjust your order without returning to an earlier stage by pressing one of the links in the steps on the screen. A summary of your order, address information and payment method is displayed. If this is correct, you should press the Finish button to place your order.

Thank you for your order

If you see this screen you have completed your order. You will receive a confirmation email at the email address you provided and you can print this screen for reference.
