Thomas Gray
From an early age I have had a passion for history (fuelled by
an antique-dealing father), and I consider myself fortunate to have
been able to pursue my historical interests in my 15 years’ working
in academic publishing. After four rewarding and instructive years
working on primary source projects for Adam Matthew Publications, I
joined Ashgate in 2000 as a commissioning editor. Since then I have
worked on a broad portfolio of early medieval to late
twentieth-century history books, written by a wide spectrum of
international authors.
Ashgate is a company that encourages its editors to follow their
own interests and instincts, and develop publishing programmes that
reflect current research, and encourage further original
scholarship. At some stage I hope to return to higher education to
further my own scholarly studies, but in the meantime the
opportunities offered by working in academic publishing to play
some small role in helping promote and disseminate the latest
historical research, are highly satisfying.
